Hooks Book Events is pleased to announce its new author series "Food for thoughts" and its new partnership with Stir Food Group at Zola Wine & Kitchen. Nationally renowned authors involved in the culinary world will invite lively discussion and demonstrations in Zola Wine & Kitchen's state-of-the-art cooking and cocktail test kitchen. Each of the two-hour gatherings will also include a copy of the author's featured book, along with appetizers showcasing the published recipes and two glasses of wine.
The first author to initiate the program is Judith Jones, the legendary editor of some of the world's greatest cooks, most notably Julia Child and James Beard. Her new release, The Pleasures of Cooking for One, is a vibrant wise celebration of food, but also a practical book about the joys of cooking for one, and enjoying our own company.Jones, senior editor and vice president at Alfred A. Knopf, is also the author of The Tenth Muse: My Life in Food, her evocative and inspiring memoir, and coauthor with Evan Jones (her late husband) of three books: The Book of Bread; Knead It, Punch It, Bake It!; and The Book of New New England Cookery. She also collaborated with Angus Cameron on The L.L. Bean Game and Fish Cookbook and has contributed to Vogue, Saveur, and Gourmet magazines.
Living in Paris after World War II, Jones broke free of bland American food and reveled in everyday French culinary delights. On returning to the States she published Julia Child's Mastering the Art of French Cooking. The rest is publishing and gastronomic history. A new world now opened up to Jones as she discovered, with her husband Evan, the delights of American food, publishing some of the premier culinary luminaries of the twentieth century: from Julia Child, James Beard, and M.F.K. Fisher to Claudia Roden, Edna Lewis, and Lidia Bastianich. In 2006, she was awarded the James Beard Foundation Lifetime Achievement Award. And, it should be also noted that early on in her career, Judith urged Doubleday, her employer at the time, to publish The Diary of a Young Girl, by unknown Anne Frank.
Zola Wine & Kitchen is a one-of-a-kind space designed around a state-of-the-art, commercial Test Kitchen, and is home to one of Food & Wine's Top Ten Chefs, Bryan Moscatello. This unique interactive Kitchen serves as the backdrop for luncheons, cocktail receptions, dinner parties, business meetings, corporate events and cooking classes.Let's not forget about the wine. Elli Benchimol, Certified Sommelier and Wine Director of Zola Wine and Kitchen has procured over 400 bottles of fun, exciting and unique wine selections that will fit any taste profile and budget.
We look forward to seeing you at this exciting event!
